10 Aug 2009 (Office of the Administrator-Indian Ocean Territories) The Acting Administrator of Australia's Indian Ocean Territories, Stephen Clay, has signed Community Bulletin A08/2009 which officially gazettes Christmas Island public holidays for the calendar year 2010.  13 Aug 2008 (Private Communication) The territorial administration of Christmas Island has released its official list of 2009 public holidays, which features change of date for the first day of the Chinese New Year public holidays.  14 Aug 2007 (Teritorial Administration) Christmas Island has released its 2008 list of official public holidays, in which Labour Day, usually observed at the end of March, is scheduled for March 17 in 2008.  31 Aug 2000 (Territorial Administrator) Christmas Island has released its 2001 list of official public holidays, in which Labour Day, usually observed in the latter part of March, is scheduled for March 5 in 2001.  29 Oct 1998 (Federal Department of Employment) The 1999 public holidays for Christmas Island have been announced. Background Information

Governing Law: Public holidays in the Territory of Christmas Island are regulated by the Section 7 of the Public and Bank Holidays Act 1972 (WA)(CKI) which amended the Christmas Island Act 1958, and is supplemented annually (usually in mid-August) by a Government Gazette announcement by the Territory Administrator concerning variable date public holidays.  Weekend Public Holidays: Public holidays that fall on a Saturday or Sunday are treated in the manner in which they are treated in Western Australia, in particula as regards the Saturday occurrences of the ANZAC Day public holiday.  Christmas Island International Codes CX and CXR (2 and 3-letter ISO3166 codes) and .cx (ICANN national top-level internet domain). • Other Sources of Information The following specialized websites are also a good source of Christmas Island information and news: ASI Hot Spots (security-related world events: terrorist threats, political strife, strikes, criminal activity, aviation incidents and health outbreaks), CIA World Factbook (Christmas Island maps, demographics and economic statistics), and Wikipedia (includes Christmas Island commemorative dates that are not necessarily public holidays).
