Then the previously mentioned 2006 Public Holidays Amendment reduced both public holidays to one day, in compensation for which, Ascension was added as a public holiday, and an additional day in lieu was given when Botswana Day falls on a Saturday. However, in practice, it would seem that the new public holidays were gratefully accepted but everyone still takes 2-day holidays for President's Day and Botswana Day, including the Government of Botswana and the Bank of Botswana. • Sale and Consumption of Alcohol: A 2007 law forbids bars and bottle stores from opening on Sundays and public holidays.
