Governing Law: The list and dates of official public holidays in Uganda are regulated by the Public Holidays Act 1965 (Ch 255) that came into effect on July 30, 1965, and was amended in 1966, 1968, 1971, 1974, 1978, 1990, and 1992.
Kingdom of Buganda: Schedule 7 to the 1962 Constitution of Uganda, contains Matters with respect to which the Legislature of Buganda has exclusive power to make Laws and lists Buganda-specific public holidays in Part 1, Section 8 (Buganda public holidays and festivals).
Weekend Public Holidays: Public holidays that fall on a weekend are not compensated by a day in lieu either the workday before or after.
Uganda Martyrs' Day: Every June 3, which is a gazetted public holiday in Uganda, when hundreds of local and international pilgrimsgo to the Uganda martyrs shrine in Namugongo, near Kampala, to pay homage to over 30 Christians murdered by authorities for failing to denounce Christianity in 1886. |

Feriados Musulmanes: En Uganda, los días feriados y días festivos musulmanes se calculan utilizando el calendario Umm al-Qura de Arabia Saudí, de utilización oficial en Arabia Saudí y de gran utilización en la mayoría de los estados del Golfo Pérsico. Estos días feriados podrían celebrarse un día después en los países que no estén dentro de la región del Golfo. Los amaneceres, atardeceres, fases lunares, salidas y puestas de la luna que se utilizan para hacer estos cálculos se basan en la posición geográfica de la Meca (latitud 21.42°N, longitud, 39.82°E, GMT+3 horas, sin horario de verano).
