Latvia started to officially declare Bridge Holidays in 2007. To make up for these extra public holidays, there are designated specific Working Saturdays.
Weekend Public Holidays: There was a lot of debate in Parliament in May 2006 and January 2007 as to what to do when public holidays fell on a weekend day. But, as of July, 2007, nothing has yet come into effect.
Although there is a sizeable Russian minority in Latvia, none of the Orthodox holidays is a public holiday, although an attempt was made in 2003 to declare Orthodox Christmas as a public holiday in Latvia . |
