Die folgenden Anmerkungen über die Feiertage von Mosambik sind in Englisch. Falls Sie irgendwelche Fragen hinsichtlich dieser Anmerkungen haben sollten, kontaktieren Sie uns bitte. Religious Public Holidays: There are no national holidays that are religious in nature, but the Government has a liberal leave policy to permit religious observance.
Weekend Public Holidays: The aforementioned Labour Code states in Article 96-3 that whenever a public holiday falls on a Sunday, work shall be suspended on the
following Monday.
Tolerância de Ponto (grant of permission not to attend work): These are additional dates, declared at the discretion of the government, with advance notice of at least two days, when employees have the right to suspend the performance of work without loss of pay (ie. for all intents and purposes, these are additional, one-off, public holidays).
Christmas: Officially the government refers to the national public holiday on December 25th as Family Day, however, most every one else calls it Christmas Day, even on their websites and calendars (these include banks, tourist agencies, schools, and many businesses).
An important aspect of public holidays in Mozambique is called tolerancia de ponto which is an ad-hoc public holiday, which the local or national government announces, sometimes only at a day's notice. The latest was the commemorations of the 20th anniversary of the death of the country's first president, Samora Machel, on 19 October, which suddenly became a public holiday at less than 24 hours notice. In provinces and districts, it is frequent for a "tolerancia de ponto" to be declared when a senior political figure is visiting. Businesses have long complained bitterly about the additional costs involved with these extra holidays.
Mozambique’s Heroes' Day is officially called Dia dos Heróis Moçambicanos, and in in hommage to Eduardo Mondlane.
Mozambique’s Women's Day is officially called Dia da Mulher Moçambicana (note the singular) and is celebrated in hommage to Josina Machel. |
