There are some new national holidays and many holidays for members of specific religions. This schedule lists the national holidays as well as some of the main observances from different relligious groups. Although the changes were initially slated for 2008, many were implemented in the second half of 2007. • Weekend Public Holidays: When a Macedonian holiday falls on a weekend day, the Government of Macedonia usually issues a proclamation a few days before the holiday informing the public that a different day will be the observed holiday. • Orthodox New Year is not a public holiday although it is celebratedby some. • Religious and Ethnic Holidays: The following are Government-designated religious and ethnic community holidays that are only for those of specific faiths or ethnic communities.
