On Monday, Costa Rica's Congress voted an amendment to Article 148 of the current Labour Code, which removes 4 public holidays enjoyed by the public sector, thus putting both the private and public sector on an equal footing, as far as paid public holidays are concerned.
The 4 canceled public holidays are: Corpus Christi (based on Easter, usually occurs in June), San José (March 19), San Pedro y San Pablo (June 29), and Día de la Inmaculada Concepción de la Virgen María (December 8).
This leaves Costa Rica with 9 paid public holidays, and with 2 unpaid public holidays: August 2 and October 12, which will be movable to an adjoining Monday (which one was not specified in the amendment) whenever the public holiday falls on a Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday.
