Hong Kong's Chief Executive has announced a new public holiday, Victory Over Japan Day, to be observed on the 3rd Monday of August.
In compensation, the Liberation Day public holiday, previously observed on the 4th Monday of August, will be cancelled effective immediately.
There may yet be more changes to Hong Kong's public holidays, as one of the first moves of Hong Kong's Chief Executive was to declare a 5-day public holiday from Saturday, June 28, until Wednesday, July 2, 1997, inclusively (20-Jun-1997).
