Panama's President, Ernesto Pérez Balladares, has issued an Executive Decree (Decreto Ley Nº8 del 2 de junio 1997, que Establecio los Dias Puentes y Modifica el Articulo 46 del Codigo de Trabajo) which moves some fixed-date public holidays to the nearest weekend.
The bill, which is aimed at promoting internal tourism through the creation of 3-day weekends, would not apply to religious holidays.
