Iran Declares January 1st Y2K Public Holiday

Iran's President, Mohammad Khatami, announced that during a recent session of the council of ministers, the cabinet approved a proposal of the Budget and Planning Organization to declare the coming Saturday, January 1, 2000, as an official public holiday.

The decision was made upon the proposal of the Plan and Budget Organization and in order "to avoid any possible disruption in some computers on the said day, which is the first day of the Christian year 2000".
