Jordan's Council of Ministers has declared Wednesday, August 11, 1999, as a one-off public holiday due to a solar eclipse to be observed in Jordan on that date.

An announcement issued by the Cabinet, and Prime Minister Abur-Ra'uf S. Rawabdeh, said all government departments will be closed on August 11, "because of the eclipse".

Neighboring Syria also declared a public holiday for the date of the upcoming solar eclipse (31-Jul-1999).
