The Executive Council of the future Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) has decided in its meeting of yesterday to declare the period from December 21 to December 31, 1999, as one-off public holidays to coincide with the upcoming handover of Macau to the People's Republic of China.
A couple of month ago, December 20, 1999, the date when Macau becomes an administrative region of China, was declared a public holiday (19-Sep-1998), as per the recently released "Press Communique on the Second Plenary Session of the Preparatory Committee for the Macao Special Administrative Region".
The Council also discussed, but not finalized the arrangement of public holidays in Macao in the year 2000, the first year after Macao's return to China (04-Aug-1998).
