The "Public Holidays (Amendment) Act, 2000" (An Act to amend the Public Holidays Act, Cap. 354) has been gazetted just in time for the new year.
This bill, which amends the "Antigua and Barbuda Public Holidays Act 1953", was passed last month by the House of Representatives (09-Nov-2000) and the Senate (21-Nov-2000).
It replaces the Caribbean Community (Caricom) Day on the first Monday of July, by a new "Vere Cornwall Bird (Snr.) Day" public holiday on the day after the first Monday of August, meaning that Antigua and Barbuda will now have a 4-day weekend at the beginning of August every year.
