A motion submitted by the Union for Fatherland and Freedom (LNNK), proposing that the law on public holidays and commemorative days be amended to designate Legion Day, on March 16, an annual commemorative day for the World War II Latvian Legion soldiers, was rejected in its second reading by the Saeima (Latvia's Parliament).
The bill will now proceed to its third reading.
Currently, Lacplesis Day (November 11th, the Latvian National Army Day) is the official day honouring Latvian soldiers.
