The upcoming, July 19, 2000, new public holiday, commemorates the 21st anniversary of the coup that led the Sandinistas to power in 1979.
Despite a much toned-down rethoric, recent informal polls show that about two thirds of respondents do not approve of commemorating this event with a public holiday.
