A committee was given the mandate by BVI Executive Council to review each of the holidays currently being observed, with a view to making changes.
Recommendations include the replacement of March's Commonwealth Day by a new holiday in November, the renaming of Territory Day to Virgin Islands Day and of August Festival Days to Emancipation Days.
Tweaks to the calculation methods (replacing fixed-dates by the 1st, 2nd or 3rd Monday of a month) and allowed store opening hours (particularly in days 2 and 3 of the August Festival) were also recommended.
