The President of the Republic of Honduras, Rafael Pineda Ponce, has signed Decree 199-2001 of November 1st, 2001, which effectively restores 3 of the 4 public holidays cancelled in 1998.

As a means of rebuilding the economy shattered by Hurricane Mitch, Article 1 of the Decree 288-98 of November 30, 1998 (21-Dec-1998), and its interpretation, contained in Decree 162-99 of November 9, 1999, cancelled 4 public holidays: April 14 (Día de las Américas), September 17 (Día del Maestro), October 3 (Nacimiento de Francisco Morazán), and October 12 (Día de la Raza).
