Isle of Man Maintains TT Bank Holiday In 2001

(Posted on Thursday, May 24, 2001)

The Isle of Man's Chief Minister, Donald Gelling, has announced that the upcoming, June 8, 2001, Senior Race Day will remain a bank holiday in the Isle of Man.

The clarification was deemed necessary following to the number of calls stemming from the cancellation of the 2001 TT Race due to the current "foot and mouth" disease outbreak.

But a spokesman for the chief minister's office said there was never a question of the bank holiday being cancelled as it is a statutory holiday passed by Tynwald.
