Nepal Planning To Cancel Public Holidays

The government of Nepal is considering canceling more than a dozen public holidays, as well as reducing the weekend form 2 days to 1 day.

The public holidays changes being considered are: the reduction of the Dashain public holiday to 5 days, from present 9 days, as well as the cancellation of the public holidays for Gaijatra, Indrajatra, Rakchhyabandhan, Sri Krishnajanmastami, Sripanchami, Fagupurnima, Chaitedasain, and Ramnavami.

As for the reduction of the weekend, the government is yet to reach a final decision on the issue. The two-day weekend off was announced in the Kathmandu valley on an experimental basis, sixteen months ago.
