By a vote of 283/125, the Duma approved the new Labor Code which includes a provision making February 23, Defenders of the Fatherland Day, a new public holiday in Russia.

The new Labor Code keeps the other holidays that Russia has observed over the past decade, but modifies the name of the November 7 public holiday known as the Great October Socialist Revolution as the Anniversary of the October Revolution/Day of Agreement and Reconciliation.
