Uganda's Minister of public service has announced that Monday, March 12, 2001, had been declared a one-off public holiday to allow the employees of government and other organizations to participate in that day's presidential election.

Electoral public holidays are common in Uganda (05-Nov-1997).

Most recently, the Ugandan government had declared Wednesday, February 28, 2001, a one-off public holiday to allow people to go and check their names in the voters' register and pick cards for voting (27-Feb-2001).
