Belize's Ministry of Home Affairs has announced that Monday, September 23, 2002, will be observed as an additional public and bank holiday throughout Belize, in lieu of the annual, September 21, public holiday.
The announcement was prompted by the fact that, in 2002, the annual, September 21, Independence Day public holiday falls on a Saturday.
Under Belize's Holidays (Amendment) Act 1985 (No. 27 of 1985), only public holidays falling on a Sunday automatically give rise to a day in lieu public holiday on the following Monday.
