Chile Cancels September Public Holiday

(Posted on Wednesday, March 6, 2002)

Source: Diario Oficial De La Republica De Chile (Santiago)

Chile's recently promulgated Law 19.793 abolishes the first Monday in September, "Día de la Unidad Nacional", public holiday, effective immediately.

This law's single article, "Derógase la ley Nº 19.588, que declara feriado legal el primer lunes del mes de septiembre de cada año" cancels a public holiday that was instituted 3 years ago (11-Nov-1998) as a replacement for the polemical, September 11, "Día de la Liberación Nacional" public holiday.
