Sweden Considers Making Its National Day A Full Public Holiday

(Posted on Friday, June 7, 2002)

Source: Svenska Dagbladet (Stockholm)

Sweden's Parliament is to make June 6, Sweden's National Day into a full public holiday (as of 2002, Sweden's National Day is not a public holiday in Sweden). This change, however, is not likely to occur in 2003 or even 2004, as there is debate as to which other public holiday to cancel in exchange.

Most Swedes would seem to favor making May 1st a normal working day, but MP's seem to prefer Whit Monday.
