The Uruguayan monetary authorities have declared a 2-day bank holiday for Tuesday and Wednesday, July 30-31, 2002.
The Office of the President later issued a statement saying that the bank holidays were declared due to the government's decision to shut down Banco Montevideo and Caja Obrera, which regulators took over last month.
