The government of Belize has released its official list of public holidays for the year 2004. Of particular note, the list does not allow for a day in lieu public holiday to compensate the fact that, in 2004, May 1st falls on a Saturday.
Under article 9 of the Belize Holidays Act (2000, revised 2003), the government of Belize has discretionary powers to declare a day in lieu public holiday, if any fixed-date public holiday falls on a Saturday.
Historically, it has chosen to use these discretionary powers on and off over the years, without any pattern being obvious.
