Iraq's new governing council has voted to scrap 2 of the holidays associated with Saddam Hussein; the one on July 14 (the anniversary of the overthrow of the monarchy in 1958) and the one on July 17 (the anniversary of Saddam's Ba'ath party revolution).
In addition, the council decided that Iraq's new Independence Day would be April 9 (the day of Saddam's overthrow, earlier this year).
