The Australian Industrial Relations Commission (AIRC) has announced that it had rejected the request by the Victorian Trades Hall Council which sought an extra public holiday on Monday, April 26, 2004, in lieu of Anzac Day, which falls on Sunday this year.
The decision means April 26 will be observed as a public holiday in every Australian state this year except Victoria and Tasmania.
The Victorian Trades Hall Council Union had taken the matter to the Australian Industrial Relations Commission last month (18-Mar-2004).
