Australia's Victoria Unions Asking For April 26 Public Holiday

(Posted on Thursday, March 18, 2004)

Source: AAP General News (Melbourne)

Victoria State trade unions are seeking an extra public holiday in lieu of Anzac Day, which falls on a Sunday this year.

Victorian trade unions will take the matter to the Australian Industrial Relations Commission next week.

Without this exemption, April 26 will be observed as a public holiday in every Australian state this year except Victoria and Tasmania, although Tasmania does have the additional public holiday of Easter Tuesday.
