Sarajevo and parts of the Bosnia-Hercegovina Federation with a Bosniak majority (FBiH) will observe March 1st as Independence Day, but not the Bosnian Serb Republic (RS) and areas of the Federation with a Croat majority.
The prime minister of the Bosnian Serb Republic (Srpska), Dragan Mikerevic, declared today that the entities that make up Bosnia (the Serb Republic, RS, and the Federation, FBiH) have the right to pass their own laws on public holidays, and that Bosnia-Hercegovina Independence Day, which is today being marked by the Federation, was not a public holiday in the Serb Republic.
The draft law on public holidays has been in parliamentary procedure for some time now, but an agreement on public holidays has not been reached to this day.
