China Reconsiders Golden Week Public Holidays

(Posted on Friday, November 26, 2004)

Source: People's Daily Online (Beijing)

China's State Council is in discussions with the National Tourism Administration (CNTA), the Ministry of Railways, the Civil Aviation Administration of China, and the National Development and Reform Commission, with a view to possibly cancel the weeklong public holidays around the Lunar New Year, Labor Day, and Chinese National Day.

These weeklong, Golden Week, public holidays were introduced in 1999 (20-Sep-1999), in an effort to boost internal tourism and domestic consumption.
