China's State Council is in discussions with the National Tourism Administration (CNTA), the Ministry of Railways, the Civil Aviation Administration of China, and the National Development and Reform Commission, with a view to possibly cancel the weeklong public holidays around the Lunar New Year, Labor Day, and Chinese National Day.
These weeklong, Golden Week, public holidays were introduced in 1999 (20-Sep-1999), in an effort to boost internal tourism and domestic consumption.
