Costa Rica's head of the legal department of the Department of Labor, Érick Briones, announced that the upcoming Día del Encuentro de Culturas public holiday (Columbus Day) would be moved to October 18, for the public sector, and those private sector employees whose employers have reached an agreement with them.

The decree, signed by Costa Rica's President, was based on the 1996 amendment to the Labour Code of Costa Rica (17-Jul-1996).
