Guyana's Home Affairs Permanent Secretary, Angela Johnson, has announced that Eid-ul-Fitr is not a public holiday.
Apparently, the Ministry of Home Affairs has, of late, been being bombarded with telephone calls about Monday, November 15, being a public holiday. Some of the confusion may just be wishful thinking, possibly due to the recent announcement of 2 new public holidays in Guyana (29-Apr-2004).
Secretary Johnson did, however, confirm that Friday, November 12, 2004, would be a public holiday on account of the Hindu holiday of Diwali (the festival of lights).
