Indonesia Declares April 5 and July 5 Public Holidays

The Indonesian government and House of Representatives (DPR) have decided to declare next Monday, April 5 and Monday, July 5, 2004, public holidays as on those dates the nation will elect legislators and a president respectively.

In Indonesia, the date of legislative elections and presidential elections are traditionally declared a public holidays (29-May-1999).

Coordinating Minister for People's Welfare, Jusuf Kalla, told media that the decision to declare those dates national holidays is based on Law Number 12/2003 on general elections.
