Last week, Israel's Parliament, the Knesset, approved law No.1930 amending the 1949 law on the Independence Day public holiday, so as to never have the Memorial Day national holiday start on a Saturday night.
As the Memorial Day national holiday is always the day before the Independence Day public holiday, the amendment means that, starting in 2004, if the Independence Day public holiday falls on a Monday, then its observance will be moved to the next day.
After this year, the amendment will have the effect of moving the Independence Day public holiday from a Monday to a Tuesday in 2007, 2010, 2011, and 2013.
