Malta Proceeds With Amendment to Legislation On Public Holidays

(Posted on Friday, December 3, 2004)

The Government of Malta has introduced legislation discontinuing the practice of declaring day in lieu public holidays on the Monday following any fixed-date public holiday that falls on a weekend, as mandated in Malta’s Industrial and Employments Relations Act.

In 2005, if passed, workers would lose three holidays, including the May 1st holiday and Christmas Day.
