Russia Considering Full Revamping Of Public Holidays

(Posted on Tuesday, November 23, 2004)

Source: Interfax (Moscow)

The State Duma has passed, in its first reading, a series of amendments to article 112 of the Russian Federation Labour Code, which, if passed, would change the public holidays in Russia enormously.

Some of the changes considered are: extending the New Year holiday from two to five days, establishind a new public holiday on November 4th to replace the November 7th public holiday, and abolishing the public holidays of May 2 and December 12.

This seems to be an expanding review of what started as a simple public holiday swap last month (28-Oct-2004).
