The UAE's Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs, Saeed Al Ghaith, has announced that Saturday, May 1, 2004, is to be officially observed as a public holiday by ministries, and public departments in the country.

This announcement, and that of yesterday (26-Apr-2004), are not on the occasion of International Labour Day, on May 1st, but due to this year's occurrence of the birthday anniversary of Prophet Mohammed, which coincides with 12 Rabe ul Awwal 1425.
