The State Council of China has released the official list of 2006 public holidays, including the list of working Saturdays and Sundays that compensate for the 3 weeklong Golden Week public holidays.
The periods of public holidays in China in 2006 will be:
• January 1-3. • January 29-February 4. • May 1-7 • October 1-7
As was the case in past years (20-Dec-2004, and 19-Dec-2003), and more generally since the implementation of the weeklong, Golden Week, public holidays (20-Sep-1999), in compensation for the additional public holidays, some nearby weekend days have been declared as regular working days.
The compensatory working weekend dates in 2006 will be:
• Saturday, December 31, 2005. • Saturday, January 28. • Sunday, February 5. • Saturday and Sunday, April 29-30. • Saturday, September 30. • Sunday, October 8.
Note that, since last year (26-Nov-2004), China's State Council has in discussions with various government agencies, with a view to possibly cancel the weeklong public holidays around the Lunar New Year, Labor Day, and Chinese National Day.
