The Japanese Diet, on Friday, enacted a law to rename the Greenery Day national holiday after the reign of the late Emperor Hirohito, posthumously known as Emperor Showa.
The revised holiday Act 43 to rename April 29, the late emperor's birthday, as Showa Day, will take effect from 2007, and one of its side-effects is that any date that falls between 2 public holidays, will henceforth also be a public holiday.
This means that there will be a 5-day period of public holidays in 2009, 2015, and 2026.
