Kazakhstan's Prime Minister, Danial Akhmetov, has signed a decree making Monday, October 24, 2005, a one-off public holiday to bridge the one-day gap between this year's October 25 Republic Day public holiday, and the preceding weekend.

In compensation for this additional public holiday, Saturday, October 22, 2005, has been declared a regular working day in Kazakhstan.
