The press-service of the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, Daniyal Akhmetov, has announced a decree declaring Monday, March 7, and Monday, March 21, 2005, as one-off public holidays to be observed jointly with the 2 annual public holidays for International Women's Day and Nowruz which both fall on a Tuesday this year.

As is traditionally the case case (08-Apr-2003, 16-Feb-2005, and 14-Dec-2002), and to compensate for the aforementioned additional public holidays, Saturday, March 5, and Saturday, March 19, 2005, have been declared regular working days throughout Kazakhstan.

The net effect of this decree is that Kazakhstan will have two 3-day public holidays long weekends in March, from March 6-8 and from March 20-22, 2005.
