Lithuania Formalizes Rules For Public Holidays That Occur On A Weekend

(Posted on Tuesday, December 20, 2005)

Source: International Journal of Baltic Law

According to articles 161 and 162 of the Lithuanian Labour code, as amended on December 20, 2005, beginning with 2006, all holidays in Lithuania falling on a Saturday or Sunday are moved to the next Monday.

This rule also applies to all holidays, without any exception, even those which are always celebrated on a Sunday, such as Mothers' Day and Easter Sunday, thus creating a new, de facto, Easter Tuesday public holiday in Lithuania.
