Philippines Declares October 31 Public Holiday

(Posted on Monday, May 16, 2005)

Earlier last week, Philippines President, Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo (PGMA), signed Proclamation No.839, which declares 3 one-off special non-working public holidays; Monday, October 31, Monday, November 28, and Monday, December 26, 2005.

In compensation, the date of Bonifacio Day (November 30) has been made a regular working day throughout the Philippines in 2005. The Proclamation does, however, state that all activities and celebration in observance of "Bonifacio Day" shall remain to be observed on November 30, 2005.

The proclamation of a bridge public holiday around November 1st, follows the pattern of similar proclamations in 2001 (10-Oct-2001), 2002 (18-Oct-2002), and 2003 (14-Oct-2003).
