Minister of State for Public Service, Okumu Ringa, announced that, in keeping with the government's practice of making national election days public holidays, the Ugandan government had declared the date of the upcoming Referendum, Thursday, July 28, 2005, as a one-off public holiday.

Election-related public holidays are common in Uganda (11-Sep-2002, 13-Feb-2002, 25-Jun-2001, 09-Mar-2001, and 05-Nov-1997).
