Uganda Declares October 24 Obote Public Holiday

(Posted on Saturday, October 22, 2005)

Uganda's second deputy prime minister and minister of public service, has issued a statement that the Government of Uganda had declared Monday, October 24, 2005, a one-off public holiday on the occasion of the funeral of former president, the late Dr Apollo Milton Obote.

The low grade level of the civil servant making the announcement is a testimonial to the government's unhappiness at having been forced by Parliament to declare this public holiday (21-Oct-2005) despite its earlier announcement that no such public holiday would be declared (18-Oct-2005).
