Uzbekistan Announces Eid al-Adha Public Holiday

(Posted on Friday, December 30, 2005)

Source: Uzbek National News Agency (Tashkent)

The President of Uzbekistan, Islam Karimov, has issued a resolution declaring Tuesday, January 10, 2006, as a non-working public holiday throughout Uzbekistan on account of the upcoming Kurban Hayit (Feast of Sacrifice).

The date specified in the aforementioned decree was adopted at the request of the Muslim Board of Uzbekistan, as usual (12-Jan-2005, 18-Feb-2002 and 23-Feb-2001), although the declaration of the Id al-Adha public holiday stems from the presidential decree of June 20, 1991 (the Presidential Resolution "On announcing Kurban Hayit as day-off").
