The state Angop news agency said the Council of the Republic, a body chaired by President Jose Eduardo dos Santos, had advised splitting legislative and presidential elections, holding the former in 2008 (between May and August) and the latter in 2009 (also between May and August).
The official being quoted added that the eventual date for the long-awaited election could be even later, in 2010, or even 2012. In any case, we expect that date to be declared a public holiday in Angola.
