NSW Premier Morris Iemma will make a decision in the next few weeks as to whether just Sydney or the whole of NSW will get a public holiday during September's APEC summit. Mr Iemma confirmed a public holiday would be necessary on Friday, September 7, so security forces could close down most of the city's streets for the meeting of 21 Asia-Pacific leaders.
Some business leaders want September 7 to replace the October Labour Day long weekend. For more details on the APEC summit public holiday, refer to our September 12, 2006, news posting, below.
