Chile Cancels Corpus Christi Public Holiday

(Posted on Wednesday, December 13, 2006)

The law, replacing the holiday of Corpus Christi with a new national holiday, on July 16 every year, to celebrate the Virgen del Carmen (Boletines Nos 3379-06 y 3868-06, refundidos), has just been sent for approval to President Bachelet.

The bill, stemming from a 2003 initiative, was approved by the Chilean legislative assembly (Cámara de Diputados) last summer (23-Aug-2006).
